While the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève and the various auctions garnered plenty of attention over the last few days, there are always other things going on in the watchmaking capital of Geneva when all the big players are in town. This past week though, we got an extra treat. Tucked away in a relatively quiet corner of the Four Seasons Hotel Des Bergues, Mr. Davide Parmegiani, unquestionably one of of the most important watch collectors, specialists, and dealers on the planet, set up an exhibition of a few dozen replica watches to share with visitors and would-be clients. These weren't just any replica watches though. No, they were the ne plus ultra of contemporary collecting, mostly the kinds of mega Rolex and Patek Philippe references that you hear about but never actually see.
The small salon just downstairs from where Christie's was hosting its previews and auction was a major gathering point for collectors all weekend. Even the most jaded show up when Davide says he's got the good stuff. Obviously I had to stop by, and I thought I would shoot some photos of the most exceptional pieces to share with you here. I apologize for the less-than-stellar lighting windowless rooms in old-school luxury hotels aren't exactly the best photo studios.
